CalmNest privacy notice

Last updated 26 September 2026. This notice explains, in plain language, how CalmNest handles your data under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP). It is available in English, Hindi and Punjabi; if the versions differ, the English version applies. When the app changes how it handles data, we update this notice and the date above.

English

The short version

CalmNest works without an email, phone number or name.
Your check-ins, history, favourites, kits, parked worries and anything you type into a reset stay on your phone.
Your college or workplace never sees you. It sees only anonymous totals, and only for groups of 10 or more.
"Talk it through" sends your messages to Google's Gemini AI so it can reply. We don't keep them.
You can export or delete everything from Settings at any time.
Home-screen widgets show nothing personal unless you turn on "Show my numbers on the widget", and even then only counts, never feelings.

What reaches our servers, and why

Anonymous usage counts — only if you turn them on (off by default). Per session: which Calm Point (if any), the kind of place, a feeling, before/after ratings, which reset, how far you got (check-in, reset or the end), roughly how long it took (to the nearest 10 seconds), where you started (Calm Point, app, widget, shortcut or reminder), the app language, the kind of phone (Android or iPhone), whether you opened Need help or tapped your counsellor's details during that session (yes/no), the week (Monday's date) and a 3-hour time slot. No account ID, no device ID, no exact time, nothing you wrote. A session you leave after the check-in is counted too, as far as it got.	So institutions can see anonymous totals and we can learn which resets help	24 months, then folded into monthly totals
Weekly question — only if you answer it (linked users). The answer (1–5), your institution and the week. To stop two answers in one week, a one-way code made from your account ID, the week and a secret is kept until the week ends, then deleted. The answer itself carries no ID. We cannot link anonymous usage counts back to you, so they cannot be exported, found or deleted per person.

Talk it through (AI chat)

Chat is off until you agree to it the first time you open it.
Before a message leaves your phone, phone numbers, email addresses, Aadhaar- and PAN-like numbers and links are removed. Our server removes them again.
Your message is first checked for signs that you may be in danger. If there are any, or if that check fails, the chat does not continue and the app shows ways to reach a person (Tele-MANAS 14416, 112, and your campus counsellor if your institution set one).
Otherwise, the last few turns of the conversation are sent to Google's Gemini API to write a reply. The reply can suggest one of the app's own resets; it never writes new exercises.
We don't store your conversation. It stays in the app's memory until you close the chat.
Google's terms for this early version: CalmNest uses the free tier of the Gemini API during the pilot. Under Google's terms for the free tier, Google may use what is sent to improve its products, and people at Google may read it. That is why we remove personal details and ask you not to include names or contact details. We will move to a paid tier, where Google does not use the content to improve its products, before any public release.

What your college or workplace can see

Only anonymous totals for groups of 10 or more: sessions per week and per Calm Point, the most common feelings (as shares), average change from before to after, busy 3-hour slots, types of place, where sessions started, how far they got, and app languages. When one number in a row is hidden, a second is hidden too, so hidden numbers can't be worked out from the totals. Need-help opens and counsellor taps are shown only per week and only from 20 up; weekly-question results only from 30 answers.

If you linked through a Calm Point, you can see a smaller set in My Campus: rounded weekly totals for your campus, only from 30 sessions up, and only when at least 50 people are linked. They never see individual sessions, device or account IDs, anything anyone wrote, or any chat. This is enforced by the database itself, not only by the dashboard.

Institution staff sign in with their work email; their actions in the dashboard are recorded in an audit log (kept 12 months).

Your rights

Export: Settings → Export my data gives you everything on your phone, and the app can fetch everything our servers hold about your account.
Delete everything: Settings → Delete everything (asked twice) erases the data on your phone and deletes your account on our servers, including your profile, consents and any synced data. The app then starts fresh.
Withdraw consent for chat or usage counts at any time in Settings. It applies from then on.
Complain to the Data Protection Board of India if you think we got something wrong.

Children

CalmNest is for adults (18+) only. You confirm your age when you start.

Safety note

CalmNest is a wellbeing tool, not medical care. If you are in crisis, call Tele-MANAS on 14416 or emergency services on 112.

Error reports

If the app crashes, it may send us a short technical error message (no text you typed, no chat, no account ID). We keep these for 90 days to fix bugs. We use no third-party analytics or advertising tools.

गुमनाम उपयोग गिनती — सिर्फ़ तब जब आप इसे चालू करें (डिफ़ॉल्ट रूप से बंद)। हर सेशन के लिए: Calm Point, जगह का प्रकार, एक भावना, पहले/बाद की रेटिंग, कौन-सा रीसेट, आप कहाँ तक पहुँचे, लगभग कितना समय लगा (10 सेकंड तक), शुरुआत कहाँ से हुई (Calm Point, ऐप, विजेट, शॉर्टकट या रिमाइंडर), ऐप की भाषा, फ़ोन का प्रकार, और क्या आपने "मदद चाहिए" खोला या काउंसलर पर टैप किया (हाँ/नहीं), हफ़्ता और 3 घंटे का समय-खंड। इसमें कोई खाता ID, डिवाइस ID, सटीक समय या आपका लिखा कुछ भी नहीं होता। 24 महीने बाद ये मासिक कुल में बदल दी जाती हैं।

इनसाइट्स आपके फ़ोन पर ही बनती हैं। होम-स्क्रीन विजेट तब तक कुछ निजी नहीं दिखाते जब तक आप "विजेट पर मेरे आँकड़े दिखाएँ" चालू न करें, और तब भी सिर्फ़ गिनती, कभी भावनाएँ नहीं।

बात करें (AI चैट)

भेजने से पहले फ़ोन नंबर, ईमेल, आधार/पैन जैसे नंबर और लिंक हटा दिए जाते हैं। पहले संदेश में ख़तरे के संकेत देखे जाते हैं; अगर कोई संकेत मिले या जाँच विफल हो, तो चैट आगे नहीं बढ़ती और मदद के रास्ते दिखाए जाते हैं (Tele-MANAS 14416, 112)। हम आपकी बातचीत सेव नहीं करते। इस शुरुआती संस्करण में Gemini API का मुफ़्त स्तर इस्तेमाल होता है; Google की शर्तों के अनुसार Google भेजी गई सामग्री से अपने उत्पाद सुधार सकता है और लोग उसे पढ़ सकते हैं। इसलिए नाम या संपर्क जानकारी न लिखें। सार्वजनिक रिलीज़ से पहले हम पेड स्तर पर चले जाएँगे।

सेटिंग्स → मेरा डेटा एक्सपोर्ट करें; सेटिंग्स → सब कुछ मिटाएँ (फ़ोन और हमारे सर्वर दोनों से); सहमति कभी भी वापस लें; भारत के डेटा संरक्षण बोर्ड से शिकायत करें।
